What a Week!

So things have been crazy busy over here for the last week or so!! This pretty much describes how we felt after the week...and yes I did find my son passed out like this!!

We had an absolutely amazing trip to Gifford Pinchot National Forest, where we pretty much pulled off the side of the road and camped. So much fun!! The next morning we woke up and made the trip to Mt. Rainier. When we got there it was breath taking. The PNW is beautiful. We had a picnic lunch and then made our way through the Park to the base of Mt. Rainier. The elevation on Paradise Trail was about 1600' and I was terrified at first because I am still recovering from a knee surgery I had in May. The hike was just stunning the whole way up. We came across deer, marmots, and chipmunks. My little son was full of so much excitement! On the way up we saw multiple glaciers and of course went glasliding (glacier sliding). Most fun ever!!! When we got to the top of the trail I realized that all the pain and strain was indeed worth it. Pictures cannot capture the beauty that we were able to admire. The most beautiful outdoor scene I have ever seen. I will throw some pictures in just to give you a glimpse of what it was like. If you have never been to Mt. Rainier, it is a MUST!! I didn't even care if I could walk or not after the hike because it was so worth it.

Then we had a series of events happen when we got home. Sore knees on my end, little Stephen was wiped, David had a busy week of work, we had an ER visit (everything seems to be okay and follow ups are going well), I helped host a bridal shower for one of my best friends (friends for 19 years!) as well as go to her bachelorette dinner. Then I had some unfortunate hair mishaps this week....yes I braved it and used a box color, worst idea ever, had multiple toners used and help from Elite School of Beauty: only place I could get in on such short notice, it's cheaper, and I actually love going there, however the process does take a LONG time because it is a beauty school. So all in all this was a successful, fun, stressful, eventful, and amazing week. We are still going strong and that is all that matters!!

DIY Bench

So I have been wanting a bench to go at the end of our bed for quite sometime. I knew that there was a specific look I was going for and came across this bench on Pinterest. I of course did a couple things different just because I wanted more stability, cushion, and different sizing. However, the tutorial off of the 2friends & 2cities blog is the best one I have found (big thanks!!).

Supplies:

  • Pine legs - Lowe's/Home Depot ~ $25
  • 1"x 24"x 72" Upholstery Foam Padding - Amazon.com ~ $14
  • Fabric (1 yr. - 1.5 yr.) - Ikea ~ $10
  • Polyester Batting - Mom :) or a fabric store
  • Staple gun and staples - Mom or Walmart/Home Depot
  • Wood Piece - I will update with exact wood asap
Determine the size of bench you want (mine was about 40 inches long and 12 inches wide) and that will help you figure out what size to cut your board (home depot will cut it for free), but we just used our own saw (hubby cut it for me, he is a peach!) Then use the 2friends & 2cities tutorial from there. I am so pleased with my bench, actually I am in LOVE with it and so thrilled I took the plunge to make it. Please feel free to comment or leave questions below. A throw pillow tutorial is next...(yes, I made the three on this bench)

The Beauty of Life...

A little bit more about me. Just FYI this is requiring so much effort on my end because I am not the biggest fan of writing, but what do I have to lose right?

I have lived in Washington all of my life and absolutely love it here. If you have never been here, it is a must on the travel list! My husband (David) and I met here and have so many wonderful memories as we travel through our home towns. We have been married since March 10, 2012 and that was the best day ever, only continuing to get better. Our sweet son (Stephen) was born on January 7, 2013 and is so full of life! He definitely keeps me going (more like running). It's good for me!

Our family loves God and does our best to put the gospel of Jesus Christ first in our lives. We love to spend time together, travel and see new places. David recently got a bike trailer for his birthday so we now have something to tote our son in as we explore the outdoors on our bikes! We also love to hike and just got back from Zion's National Park. I can't express enough how amazed I am at the beautiful and miraculous creations on this earth.

Aside from traveling, I love to create! Creating is like therapy for me. I just let go of what's on my mind and go for it. Anything from sewing, to painting, to mod podge, to building, let me have at it. There is so much trial and error with creating that it helps me to understand that perfection does not exist. There is always something unique or different that stands out and that helps me relate to others. We are all unique in our own way. Thanks for letting me ramble just a bit, now back to chasing my little guy around!!

Cheers!!!

Cheers to the start of blogging!!! I am a new blogger, and it has taken a lot of motivation to get me to this point. However, I have been looking for something to document my family's lives, while sharing experiences with others, and bouncing ideas off of one another. I cherish those I love and love those I meet. Keep your eyes peeled for more to come!! This is the start of something fresh, new, and personable. Just a silly little thing called life.
